Sarah | Home Educated {denver, co senior photographer}

Ah, Sarah Friend is graduating!

Yes. It is true. And not only is the "smart" word put on a list titled "Sarah Morgan"....So are -
1. Funny
2. Talented
3. Kind
4. Too Good {believe me. I never feel good when I am beside her}
5. Dimples. {this has it's own category.}

This last week, I had the honor of taking here senior pictures. To say that I enjoyed myself would be an 'under.exaggeration'. :) I got stuck in the mud and Sarah hugged wheels and splashed through water...because I was the photographer. No. Because I said so.

If you follow my blog close enough, you will recognize this lady's face. Yes yes yes. You will see her here, here, and she has her own blog here! Not only was it one of the most enjoyable shoots ever {I think she made me laugh way way way more than I could ever make her laugh....} but it was probably one of the easiest as well. Sarah is a photographer, and she understands so much about how a portrait should look. As you will see: Sarah.Rocked.These.Pictures!!!

Murray: family session [denver, co portrait photographer]

The Murray family portrait session was fun as well as a learning experience. Sandra and Jason have two boys - who were definitely made of 100% boy. =) Because I was an intern, I don't have many pictures of them looking at me, but I still learned quite a few tips on how to pose, communicate, and 'shoot' a family portrait session. I definitely can’t wait to do another “family-sesh!”

On a personal note: Today my siblings and I are leaving for a camping trip. This week will be my first time camping – EVER! I am so excited to roast marshmallows, look at the bright stars, and smell the beautiful mountain air…..but I am definitely nervous about sleeping on the hard ground, and maybe the bug part. ;D So, I won’t be posting any posts here until next week.

This city girl might just turn into a mountain girl. We shall see. :)

pretty pictures:

One of the excercises we did during my internship is to go online and find 20-25 pictures that you love. It could be of ANYTHING - which is probably why I had such a hard time narrowing down my pictures to around twenty! Nevertheless, it was a great way to find my style and be a little more specific on what I liked. I thought that I would share the pictures, because they all are soooo very nice, and I love looking at pretty things.

Do you like it?

Amy: portraits [denver, co portrait photographer]

I love doing portraits. This session with Amy has quickly climbed up quite high on my 'favorites list.' She quickly became comfortable in front of the camera and really made my job so very easy. Amy was so much fun to shoot - as well as a terrific model! =)

Enjoy this collection of pictures and let me know which ones are your favorites!

My Internship in Twenty Pictures.

As you all know, Last week I was part of a photography internship. It was so encouraging and educational! To say that I learned a lot is an understatement. To say that I enjoyed it would be a lie (because I more than enjoyed it!). To say that I had way too much fun and become a better person and photographer because of it is the simplest way to describe my week to y’all. =)  I tried starting to write this post yesterday, but it was so hard to narrow down the pictures and stories into a concise recap. I am going to try, and so here is my attempt:

You should have seen me last Monday. I laugh at myself now, because I turned into a five-year old.  I had the hardest time falling asleep on Sunday night –because I knew that I would be starting my internship the next morning. I was so hyper and giddy, that I would break out into these spontaneous little dances, NO JOKE!

Soon enough, Monday July 11th rolled around. The girls below are the two people that I spent a whole 6 days with. As I will quickly describe to you, they were so much fun to be around! You will also see how much I didn’t fit in. ;D

Photobucket
How was I the odd-ball? I was like 6 inches (AT LEAST) taller than both of them. I also do not have dimples, and they both have the cutest-ever holes in the middle of their smiles. I also have stick straight hair, and these two ladies are complete curly tops.

Photobucket

Most of our time was spent in Jessica’s hotel room. I am not going to lie, it got old. This was where we designed blogs, talked business, and learned more about editing. This was the ‘headquarters’ of the week. The brain-storming sessions were so helpful! I don’t have many pictures (at least post-able ones ;) of our hotel room ‘hang –outs’….even though over 50% of the week, we were sitting in front of our computers being productive.

Photobucket
Well, what did we do most of the week? Besides – of course – sitting in a hotel room on the  8th floor in Hotel VQ. Well, the second biggest pass time was spent BEHIND a Canon box. Mmmhmm…..a camera.
(thanks Sarah for this picture of me!)

Photobucket

Not only were we learning how to shoot Manual (which I never ever had done before), but we were learning how to interact with people we don’t know in front of our cameras. We did 3 official ‘shoots’ including a family session, ‘couple’ session, and a portrait session. It was the first time I took pictures of people I didn’t know before, and I was SO thankful for the experience! Below is one picture of each of the sessions that we had. =)

Every shoot we planned – it rained. It was hard to not worry about the weather, but every single time God opened the sky for just the right amount of time for us to have wonderful light! Below is a picture of a piece of hail from last Wednesday. Even though that is the largest that the hail got that evening, we all got pinched more than once from a downpour of ice-balls.

Photobucket
We also spent a lot of time down-town Denver.  It was a blast to be in complete city life for a week! We ate downtown sometimes twice a day, and if we felt like taking a hotel break – we would go hang out at Starbucks to work.

Photobucket

Wanna hear what we ate? Chipotle (twice), Noodles & CO, Jimmy Jones, Pizza, Panera bread, and Chick-Fil-A. I was definitely spoiled, because my family and I don’t eat out often…and last week the tally was 4 lunches and 3 dinners out on the town! (Not to mention the snack stops =).

Photobucket
Jessica did a GREAT job teaching. She is the ‘watch-me-and-learn’ type, and to see a professional in action was one of the best things that I could have asked for ALL week! If you are interested in becoming a photographer, I would TOTALLY recommend becoming an intern.  It was such a privilege to be one of Jessica Shae’s “‘terns!”

Photobucket
Not only was I able to watch Jessica in action……I got to watch Sarah in action. I am going to introduce both of them a little better in a bit, but seeing Sarah’s creativity stretched me to be more creative myself.

Photobucket

Every one knows that self portraits are the best!

Photobucket

Yes, we did work hard. Yes, we learned a lot. And YES, we had fun. The week wasn’t all photography…there was some swimming, nail painting, shopping, and taking a stroll downtown – all thrown in there too. ;) It was a much needed break from work and I LOVED painting my nails a different color almost every day.  Can you guess who’s feet are who’s?

Photobucket
The amazing Colorado Rockies and God’s beautiful green creation makes it so much easier to snap pictures in.

Photobucket

Now, I must get into introductions. Maybe I should have done this at the beginning – but I specialize in saving the best for last. It’s MY cuppa tea. ;D
THIS is Pb. Plumbum. We have been photography buddies (hence- where the PB started) for over a year. We love peanut butter and photography, which are the two things that matter in life. ;D Drum Roll please????  Sarah Morgan was my fellow intern. As I was trying to find a semi normal picture to show of her, I couldn’t help but notice all of the *ahem* not-so-normal pictures I had. This is the Sarah who kept Jessica and I laughing the entire week.

Photobucket
Sarah’s blog is www.photographybysmblog.com. GO show her some love and follow her blog  and/or “like” her on FaceBook.  She does such a great job at taking pictures! I learned a ton watching her, and I cannot wait to do it again. =)

Photobucket

THIS is Jessica Shae. This is Jessica Shae Garner, and she takes Peeectures. =) She is quite the model – as you can tell…..

Photobucket

This is what she did most of the time. ;D *just kidding*

Photobucket
I need to try to put me list of compliments into a simple and short paragraph, which is hard to do if you know Jessica. Jessica was great the entire week. She loves the Lord – which is very evident in her conversations, her character, and her smile. Jessica also did a great job at teaching us how to run a photography business; she taught us everything she could, poured all her time that week into us, and answered any and every question we could think of.  And to top it off, she LOVES nail polish! ;D
Here is her blog. I know you will enjoy the pictures she takes! www.jessicashaeblog.com
